Biographical sketch

Professor Miller received his Sc.B. in biology (1983) from Brown University, and his Ph.D. in biochemistry/bioorganic chemistry (1988) from Rockefeller University under the direction of the late Professor E.T. Kaiser.  His graduate work focused on active site-directed affinity labeling of protein kinases, and on the substrate specificity of Ser/Thr- and Tyr-kinases.  From 1988 to 1991 he was a postdoctoral fellow with Professor Paul Schimmel in the Department of Biology at MIT, where he carried out structure-function studies of Ala-tRNA synthetase.  In 1991 he joined the faculty of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Stony Brook, where he is currently a Full Professor.
